Minister holds talks with Jose Peseiro for potential return as Super Eagles Coach

Reports from CompleteSports.com indicate that John Enoh, the Minister of Sports, has engaged in discussions with Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro regarding a possible return to lead the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles. Peseiro had previously held the position but left in February following the expiration of his contract.

His departure came after guiding the Nigerian team to a commendable second-place finish in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to sources within the Football Federation, the talks between the Minister and Peseiro are ongoing, with both parties expressing interest in a potential reunion.

The source revealed, «It is true that the Minister of Sports is in talks with Peseiro for his possible return to the Super Eagles. The man (Peseiro) is willing to come back. But let’s wait and see what happens».

The potential return of Peseiro comes at a crucial time for Nigerian football, as the Super Eagles gear up for their upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifying matches.

In June, Nigeria is scheduled to face off against South Africa and Benin in pivotal fixtures on the road to securing a spot in the prestigious tournament.

With discussions underway, Nigerian football fans eagerly anticipate developments regarding a potential return of Jose Peseiro and the impact it could have on the team’s performance in the qualifiers.
