Ugandan Dancehall Artist Fik Gaza released from Saudi Arabia detention

Shafic Dangote, known by his stage name Fik Gaza, a prominent Ugandan dancehall artist, has been freed from detention in Saudi Arabia after spending three days in a cell.

Gaza’s arrest occurred shortly after his arrival in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, although the reasons behind his detention remain unclear.

Some reports suggest that he was apprehended due to alleged visa irregularities and violations of dress code regulations.

The news of Gaza’s arrest sparked outcry among his fellow musicians, who swiftly called for his immediate release.

«Am Free. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to get me out of jail», Gaza posted on a social media platform following his release.

Both Saudi Arabian and Ugandan authorities have yet to provide official statements regarding the circumstances surrounding Gaza’s arrest and subsequent release.

Fik Gaza, whose music career took off in 2018, is well-known for hits like «Digida», «Wanika Ebango», and «Omwana Oyo».

His song «Banana», released last year, has enjoyed widespread popularity and significant airplay in Uganda.
