United Nations proclaims may 25th as World Football Day

On the global stage, may 25th has been designated as World Football Day, a celebration embraced by football enthusiasts worldwide.

This significant date of 25th may marks the centennial anniversary of the inaugural international football tournament that saw participation from all regions.

Held during the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, this historic event laid the groundwork for the sport’s universal appeal and influence.

The unanimous adoption of the resolution by the United Nations General Assembly underscores football’s exceptional role as a unifying force transcending borders, cultures, and socio-economic barriers.

It recognizes football not merely as a game but as a powerful tool for fostering cooperation, promoting gender equality, and nurturing social inclusion.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of FIFA and regional and national football federations, the resolution encourages countries to harness the potential of football and sports in general for advancing peace, development, and empowerment, particularly for women and youth.

On this day, nations, international organizations, educational institutions, civil society, and businesses are called upon to commemorate World Football Day in alignment with national priorities.

Through educational initiatives and public outreach, the aim is to amplify the message of football’s benefits and its capacity to inspire unity, understanding, tolerance, and solidarity on a global scale.
