Withdrawal of the AES from ECOWAS: President Tinubu and his government express their regret

The joint announcement of the withdrawal of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has elicited an official response from the Nigerian president Bola Tinubu, who is also the current chairman of the West African organization.

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reportedly expressed regret over this decision by the military leaders, whom they labeled as unelected.

According to President Bola Tinubu and his government, these military regimes deprive their people of the sovereign right to make fundamental choices regarding freedom of movement, trade, and the election of their own leaders.

However, it is noteworthy that ECOWAS was the first to deprive these countries of this sovereign right when it decided to isolate them from the rest of the West African space.

By acting that way, they ignore the will of the people to free themselves from corrupt presidents incapable of defending their interests.

This regional organization thus set aside the principles of unity, fraternity, solidarity, and sharing that should guide its actions.

The transitional leaders, labeled as «unelected», are those who perfectly align with the aspirations of their people and fervently fight to protect them from imperialist and terrorist enemies, earning unwavering support from their compatriots.

While the commissions of the African Union (AU) and ECOWAS call for fraternal dialogue, President Bola  TINUBU, currently heading the presidency of the community organization, exacerbates the situation with denigrating and provocative statements.

It is worth noting that President TINUBU had previously described the Alliance of Sahel States as a phantom alliance, anti-democratic, and devoid of good governance, statements that do not foster unity or sincere and fraternal dialogue.
