Burkina Faso: Exchange between President TRAORÉ and the forces of the Hauts-Bassins region in Bobo-Dioulasso.

The President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, met on Tuesday 3 January with the stakeholders of the Hauts-Bassins region in Bobo-Dioulasso. The objective was to present the security situation in the country, communicate his vision, listen to their concerns and invite them to unite in the dynamics of the reconquest of the national territory as well as the revival of the national economy.

The President of the Transition described the current situation and reassured the audience that the Defence and Security Forces are being reorganised to improve the coverage of the territory and the conduct of operations to secure and protect the population and their property. Efforts are being made to better equip all the fighting forces, said Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

In addition, the President of the Transition saluted and congratulated the Burkinabè for their commitment and patriotism in responding spontaneously to the call for mobilisation through their massive enrolment in the ranks of the VDP. He also thanked economic operators for their voluntary contributions to the war effort. The Head of State invited those who have not yet contributed to do so so that together with the combination of different efforts, the territory will soon be liberated.

However, he called on the populations of the Hauts-Bassins region and Bobo-Dioulasso in particular to be more vigilant so as not to be surprised by the enemy.

The Head of State also mentioned the economic situation of the Hauts-Bassins region which needs to be boosted. In this regard, after a brief description of the economic situation of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso which does not reflect its name of economic capital, President TRAORÉ reassured that actions will be taken to give the city of Sya the place it deserves, especially in economic terms. To meet this challenge, he invited the economic operators of the region to create more economic activities. He stressed that the State will play its full part in ensuring that the development objectives are achieved. The rehabilitation of the Bobo-Dioulasso international airport will be part of the economic revival of the region.

The participants in this meeting discussed various issues relating to the country’s security and socio-economic challenges. Other concerns revolved around land, infrastructure, youth employability, the economic revival of Bobo-Dioulasso and diplomatic relations.

President Ibrahim TRAORÉ reassured his interlocutors that the various concerns would be taken care of, according to priorities, as the emphasis would be placed on the security aspect, according to him. With regard to Burkina Faso’s relations with the outside world, President TRAORE reassured them that the country intends to instil a new dynamic for its sovereignty.

Before concluding the meeting, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE expressed his gratitude to the people of the Hauts-Bassins region for their commitment to the new dynamic, their mobilisation and their support. He invited them to strengthen their patriotism and solidarity for a quick victory over the forces of evil.
