Niger/Expulsion of French Forces from Niamey. Civil Society calls for action

Supporting the CNSP’s decisions to put an end to certain unproductive cooperation agreements signed with France, a coalition of civil society organisations has decided to take concrete action to get the French forces out of Niger. Known as M62, this civil society movement has announced a permanent three-day sit-in starting on 1 September 2023.

The declaration was made on Wednesday 30 August 2023 by its national coordinator, Seydou Abdoulaye.

Seydou Abdoulaye is a Pan-Africanist, known in his own country and internationally as a fighter for freedom and the total independence of his country.

Embracing the vision of the country’s new masters, this patriot intends to fight for the effective departure of the French troops stationed in Niger.

To achieve this, he invites the people of Niger to join in this fight, which is so important for the country’s future.

Mr Seydou Abdoulaye and his comrades are calling on all «CSOs, support committees, associations and religious leaders, men, women and young people, particularly those in Niamey and the surrounding villages» to mobilise, and are hoping for a«general mobilisation of one million people every day from this Friday until the departure of the occupying French forces from our country».

M62 says it is inspired by the Burkina Faso and Mali models to get French troops out of Niger.

«Today, the only worthwhile struggle is the general mobilisation of our people for the departure of the French forces, as was the case in Mali and Burkina Faso. This is why we are inviting all the mass structures that are mobilising here and there to put on hold all other actions and join us for a more effective struggle and a more consistent mobilisation», says the movement in its press release.
