Burkina Faso/Niger: Joint fight against terrorism, the Burkinabe want to strengthen military cooperation

Solidarity in the fight against jihadism is a commitment between Niger and Burkina Faso. These two countries, which share the same borders in the Sahel, have for years been confronted with regular and deadly terrorist attacks, causing thousands of displaced persons.

After more than ten  years of fighting with the support of the French army with no concrete results, these border countries, with the arrival in power of the military, have decided to assume their responsibility without France.

The military cooperation that exists between the two countries is being strengthened on their borders in the Sahel region with the mobilisation of various military units.

This government decision is in line with Burkina Faso’s strategic commitments in the fight against terrorist groups.

According to the Burkina Faso minister for defence and veterans, the aim is to improve prevention and the fight against jihadism in order to meet the deep-seated aspirations of the people of Burkina Faso.

According to him, what affects the security of Niger fundamentally affects the security of Burkina Faso, and a joint fight is essential to drive these terrorist groups out of their borders.
