Niger/China: Regular consultations continue to strengthen cooperation ties

Since the commitment of the new regime in the Republic of Niger to align with their counterparts in the People’s Republic of China for the benefit of their people, regular consultations have been organized between various entities of both republics. The goal is to further strengthen their friendship and cooperation.

Following his recent meeting with the transitional president, General Abdourahamane TIANI, regarding digital cooperation a few days ago, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Niger, Ambassador Jiang FENG, met on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, with the Minister of State, Minister of Defense of Niger, General Salifou Mody.

This time, the discussion focused on bilateral cooperation in the defense sector between Niger and China, given the country’s challenges with terrorism.

It’s worth noting that Niger and China maintain strategic and sincere relations in several areas such as security and defense, technology, energy, and socio-economic development.

For instance, China is undertaking road redevelopment projects in Niger, and recently, an agreement was signed for the exploitation and sale of Nigerien oil with a Chinese company.

Both parties aim to enhance cooperation by expanding it into other sectors for the benefit of their populations.

This demonstrates the Nigerien authorities’ willingness to diversify fruitful, sincere, and mutually beneficial partnerships while respecting Niger’s sovereignty above all else.
