Corsica: A boar’s head cut off and placed in front of the Moroccan consulate. The authorities open an investigation

On Sunday 27 August, a macabre discovery was made outside the Moroccan consulate in Corsica. After strongly condemning the acts of «incitement to discrimination and racial hatred», the Bastia public prosecutor’s office (Haute-Corse) announced that it had opened an investigation.

According to «Corse Matin», it was around 1pm on Sunday when the severed head was found.

Never before seen in this region. Police officers from the Departemental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP) in Haute-Corse went to the scene to make the initial findings. They found no damage on site. To the best of their knowledge, no claims were made.

However, the investigators are taking a close interest in the boar’s head that was left in front of the Moroccan consulate in Biguglia.

According to the same newspaper, the Prefect of Haute-Corse, Michel Prosic, expressed his indignation by condemning this «unacceptable act» with «the utmost firmness», before expressing his total support for the Moroccan Consul General and her staff, as well as for all Moroccan nationals residing in the department.

Moroccan diplomat Najoua El Berrak also said that she “condemns the events”.

«There are no results of the investigation yet. I don’t want to accuse anyone or politicise the case. We must remain prudent and wise. I’ve had several Corsican elected representatives on the phone who have given me their support, including Mr (Gilles) Simeoni, the President of the Corsican local authority», she added.

In 2021, an INSEE study revealed that Morocco was the leading country of origin for the foreign population in Corsica, accounting for almost 30% of immigrants.
