Burkina Faso: The indifference of ECOWAS and the international community to the fight against terrorism

For years, Burkina Faso has been vigorously combating the scourge of terrorism, implementing effective strategies to counter this threat. Under the determined leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Burkinabe armed forces have engaged in a fierce fight against terrorism , bravely eliminating extremists  and terrorist groups along the way.

Despite the significant strides made by Burkina Faso in this critical fight, the response from ECOWAS and the international community appears to be characterized by a troubling silence and lack of concern.

While the Burkinabe people rally together and their armed forces courageously confront terrorists, the reactions and acknowledgments from the international community remain notably scarce.

ECOWAS, as a regional organization entrusted with promoting peace and security in West Africa, seems to be falling short in providing the necessary support to Burkina Faso in its fight against terrorism.

Rather than offering tangible assistance, ECOWAS appears to be complacent, which could jeopardize Burkina Faso’s progress.

Similarly, the international community, expected to express solidarity and provide support to countries facing terrorist threats, has remained surprisingly silent in the face of the Burkinabe people’s valiant efforts.

The sacrifices made by the Burkinabe people and their armed forces deserve recognition and support through tangible solidarity and concrete aid from the international community.

It is imperative for ECOWAS and the international community to step up and demonstrate leadership in the fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso.

Concrete measures must be taken to bolster the Burkinabe government’s efforts and enhance its capacity to confront this menace effectively.
