Burkina Faso: Russia ready to support the strengthening of the Russo-Burkinabe axis

As stated by the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Mr. Apollinaire Kyélem de Tembela, the objective of the government of Captain Ibrahim Traoré is to diversify partnership relations until the right formula is found for the interests of Burkina Faso, without, however, allowing itself to be dominated by any one partner. Thus, today Burkina Faso does not exclude re-examining its “relations” with Russia, which in recent years has re-launched its cooperation with the country of men of integrity.
On January 9, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, H.E. Mrs. Olivia Rouamba, met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Burkina Faso, H.E. Mr. Alexey SALTYKOV, to discuss current issues and interests concerning bilateral relations between their countries. This meeting was mainly devoted to the strengthening of the Russo-Burkinabe partnership.

Ambassador Alexey SALTYKOV stressed that the Russian Federation has always maintained good bilateral relations with Burkina Faso since its independence. He also said that with H.E. Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA, they have both explored areas such as politics, defense, economy, important topics and for which Russia is willing to accompany the authorities of the transition in Burkina Faso.

Without forgetting that the cooperation desired by Ouagadougou is certainly military, it will also concern other aspects. Cooperation between Russia and Burkina Faso dates back more than 50 years, and today the two countries intend to consolidate it in view of the current challenges. During the exchanges, these two countries have resolutely turned to the strengthening of their partnership and this will be done through concrete actions.

For this reason, both parties are unanimous that this cooperation will take the pace desired by both countries with the effective establishment of respective embassies in Ouagadougou and Moscow.
