Togo: At the heart of the country’s new cooperation strategy with the WHO

Togo has recently unveiled an ambitious roadmap for its partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasizing four key priorities at the forefront of its strategic vision.

These priorities encompass fortifying the healthcare system to achieve universal health coverage, enhancing health outcomes across the lifespan, bolstering health security, combating both communicable and non-communicable diseases, and actively promoting overall health and well-being.

During a pivotal meeting with Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, Dr. Fatoumata Binta Diallo, WHO’s Resident Representative, presented this forward-looking strategy, marking the culmination of her nearly six-year mission.

In the exchange on February 20, 2024, Dr. Fatoumata Binta Diallo underscored the positive outcomes arising from the dynamic and fruitful partnership between WHO and Togo.

Reflecting on the years of collaboration, she emphasized, «Five and a half years ago, His Excellency the President entrusted me with critical initiatives related to healthcare system improvement, contractualization, and strengthening the partnership with the Global Fund. We have successfully achieved these objectives. Today, Togo is recognized as an exemplar. We can take pride in witnessing tangible improvements in Togo’s healthcare system».

This renewed commitment to collaboration between Togo and WHO underscores the nation’s dedication to fortifying its healthcare infrastructure and prioritizing the health and welfare of its citizens.

The outlined strategic priorities not only provide a comprehensive framework but also pave the way for future actions aimed at elevating the overall well-being of the Togolese population and ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all.
