Burkina Faso: Celebration of Eid al-Adha: Muslim Faithful intercede for the Return of Peace

In Burkina Faso, the celebration of the Eid al-Adha, also known as Eid al-Kebir and commonly called Tabaski, is marked by the desire for peace. In the capital city of Ouagadougou, several thousand Muslims prayed to Allah for peace during the Eid al-Adha prayer held at the Place de la Nation. As usual, several government officials and leaders from other religious denominations attended the prayer.

As requested by the Transitional President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, on the eve of the Eid al-Adha celebration, the Muslim faithful prayed for the return of peace and interceded for the fighters engaged on various fronts in the country.

«On the eve of the tabaski, I invite all Muslim faithful in our country to include all the fallen fighters in their prayers and supplications for the return of peace to Burkina Faso», read a tweet from Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s Twitter account.

Moussa Kouanda, the president of the Muslim community in Burkina Faso, expressed his gratitude to the government officials and brothers and sisters from other religious denominations who came to demonstrate that Burkina Faso is a country of exemplary religious tolerance. According to him, the Eid al-Adha celebration “represents an act of faith, a symbol of total submission to Allah.”

Minister of State Bassolma Bazié, who was present at the Eid prayer, commended the continuous efforts of the Muslim community in striving for peace, unity, and conviviality. He also sent messages of encouragement to the Burkinabe population.
