Burkina Faso: Signing of a 30 billion contract for the transfer of the Inata gold and Tambao manganese mines to Afro Turk

There was a signing ceremony on tuesday, April 25th, in Ouagadougou, for a contract transferring ownership of the Tambao and Inata mines (located in the Oudalan and Soum provinces respectively, in the Sahel region) to the mining company Afro Turk. The contract is worth 30 billion CFA francs.

According to the Minister Simon-Pierre Boussim, the transfer of ownership of these two mines «will create jobs and will be an important source of revenue for the government in its process of reclaiming the territory».

The sale of the Tambao manganese mine is worth 28 billion CFA francs, while the Inata gold mine is valued at 2 billion CFA francs.

«The exploitation of a mine will benefit the Burkinabe economy in several ways, including budget revenue and revenue for local communities», emphasized the Burkinabe Minister of Mines.

Additionally, this contract will help the authorities of the transition to more effectively fight against jihadist violence in the Sahel region, with the construction of military bases in Tambao and Inata.

According to Simon-Pierre Boussim, «security conditions are also part of the conditions for granting these mines. We are asking these companies to build bases for the defense and security forces. This is also a way to contribute to the resolution of the insecurity crisis».

As for the officials of the mining company Afro Turk, this agreement will give a boost to the recovery of the Burkinabe economy.

« Cooperation will certainly see a certain qualitative improvement with contributions of all kinds», suggested Salvas Bacik, before providing detailed explanations on the investments they intend to make under this agreement.
