Burkina Faso: On behalf of her ministry, Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA presents gifts to widows and orphans of fallen FDS

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, Her Excellency Olivia ROUAMBA, presided over a ceremony on Monday 24 April 2023 to hand over a donation to widows and orphans of the fallen defense and security forces.

This is a contribution by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its gender unit. The purpose of this donation is to improve the living conditions of widows and orphans of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS in french) who fell in the defense of the national territory.

According to Her Excellency Olivia ROUAMBA, the choice fell on widows and orphans, because they are the ones who fight in the shadows alongside the security forces through their prayers, their blessings and their love.

«Despite our wishes, their loved ones have fallen on the battlefield for the defense of the country and the peace of mind of our people. It is therefore our duty as Burkinabè, as women, to support these widows and orphans who struggle daily to overcome the void left by their husbands and fathers», she said.

Speaking on behalf of the military hierarchy, the Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, Lieutenant-Colonel Evrard SOMDA, expressed his gratitude to the Department of Foreign Affairs which, through this gesture, marks its “invaluable” support to the Gendarmerie, which is facing many challenges due to terrorists’ acts.

The donation consists mainly of maize, rice, pasta, oil and soap.
