Olympique Lyonnais parts ways with Fabio Grosso: New challenges ahead

The adventure of Fabio Grosso at Olympique Lyonnais comes to an end, with his suspension this Thursday morning. Despite a significant period at the helm of the club, the Italian coach failed to bring a new momentum, leaving OL in a precarious position in Ligue 1. After 12 league matches, Lyon currently sits at the bottom of the standings with a meager total of 7 points, scoring 9 goals while conceding 21.

The season has been particularly challenging, with only one victory and 4 draws. The defeat against Lille on Sunday, November 26, was the final blow.

This situation is exceptionally concerning, as in the recent history of Ligue 1, only 4 teams with a similar total at this stage of the season have managed to avoid relegation, including Monaco in 2018/19 (finishing 17th) and Strasbourg in 2020/21 (finishing 15th).

The prospect of imminent relegation prompted the executives to make a drastic decision by removing the Italian coach Fabio Grosso from his position.

Pierre Sage, the director of the training center, now takes on the responsibility and will lead the team in the upcoming challenge against Lens on Saturday, December 2.

It is a major task for the new coach, who must restore a positive dynamic and fulfill the expectations placed upon him.
