Niger/Iran: Niger and its Partner want to go faster with electricity needs

Electricity is a critical necessity for the people of Niger, especially in light of the suspension of electricity supplies by Nigeria over six months ago. The current authorities in Niger, in collaboration with their Iranian counterparts, have committed to intensifying their efforts to ensure the provision of this essential commodity for the daily lives of their citizens.

Conclusive outcomes emerged from a series of collaborative working sessions between members of the Nigerien government and a delegation from Iran, led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for Economic Affairs.

The apex of these discussions occurred on Wednesday, February 21, during a meeting between the Iranian delegation and the head of the Nigerien government, Mr. Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine.

The head of the Iranian delegation emphasized that while various areas of common interest were deliberated, the top priority for both partners is the field of electrical energy.

As a result, a consensus was reached to initiate actions within the framework of their cooperation, with immediate plans to commence the installation of specific power stations.

This initiative aims to swiftly provide electricity to all residents of Niger, ensuring that the Muslim community, in particular, can observe the upcoming month of Ramadan under favourable conditions.

Beyond the energy sector, the collaboration between Niger and Iran extends to various domains such as agriculture, transport, oil refining, terminals and reservoirs, as well as medicine.

The two nations are dedicated to fortifying their cooperative ties in these diverse areas, signifying a comprehensive and multifaceted partnership.
