Mali: The desolation of the Malian state in the face of the bad acts of the Algerian authorities

Diplomatic tension between Mali and Algeria has recently escalated. In a public statement, Malian authorities did not conceal their indignation at the subversive actions of the Algerian government in the Malian dossier. Algerian interference in  the internal affairs of Mali is not a recent development.

The breaking point occurred when Malian authorities imprudently rolled out the red carpet for the controversial figure, Iman Mahmoud Dicko.

The capture of Kidal by the Malian army on November 14 seems to have reconfigured the geopolitical situation in northern Mali and put an end to the autonomous and separatist dreams of a certain radical faction of the Permanent Strategic Framework (CSP), including various groups like the Coordination of Movements of Azawad (CMA) with independence tendencies.

The Malian authorities aim to extend their control over all major localities in the north.

Since then, Algerian authorities continue to strongly advocate for the implementation of the Algiers Agreement, which is now rendered obsolete with the capture of Kidal, leaving everyone wondering why.

It appears that Algeria seeks to expand its hegemony over the Sahel countries.

One recalls the diplomatic crisis deliberately created by Algerian authorities by setting a timeline for the Nigerien transition without even consulting the CNSP.

Algeria, concerned about preserving its alleged sphere of influence in the Sahel, is making multiple missteps, even creating diplomatic incidents that add unnecessary tension to an already fragile region plagued by terrorism.

It is crucial for Algerian authorities to return to a more constructive approach, abandoning petty calculations of interest and fostering a harmonious climate between states.
