French media suspended for manipulating public opinion

French media outlets are accused of attempting to sway public opinion in Burkina Faso by disseminating misleading information aimed at tarnishing the image of the army and authorities. In response to this perceived threat, the government has implemented stringent measures by suspending these untrustworthy media outlets.

The Burkinabe army’s increasing strength, armament, and equipment have irked certain supporters of terrorist groups as it signifies their proteges’ potential defeat.

Media outlets complicit in terrorist attacks are demonizing and fabricating falsehoods to support Burkina Faso’s enemies.

A disruptive media campaign has recently been launched to destabilize the Burkinabe people and smear the image of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and competent authorities.

Several French media outlets have joined this destabilization campaign, orchestrated through deception.

These French media outlets propagated the false report from Human Rights Watch without verifying the information with Burkinabe government sources.

Consequently, TV5 Monde and six other media outlets have been suspended from operating in Burkina Faso for two weeks.

This decision aims to safeguard the country’s integrity and stability against foreign disinformation attempts.

It also serves as a warning to French media outlets regarding adherence to journalistic ethics and standards in line with press codes.
