COP28: Active participation of Head of State Faure Gnassingbé in Dubai proceedings

The Togolese Head of State is currently in Dubai for the COP28 (28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), which was solemnly opened on December 1, 2023.

The COP28 takes place in a context where the world continues to grapple with numerous climate challenges and their negative impacts on the planet.

The event provides an opportunity for global leaders to reaffirm their commitment to climate change issues.

According to the Togolese Presidency, the Head of State will engage in discussions with his counterparts on the urgent need for collective action on climate.

He will also take the opportunity to share Togo’s experience in biodiversity protection.

While in Dubai, the Head of State will participate in several high-level meetings, including the World Climate Action Summit (WCAS).

This activity is organized by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.

On November 29, President Faure Gnassingbé had a one-on-one meeting with the President of the Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The two leaders discussed the relations between their countries and opportunities to expand cooperation, especially in strategic areas.

At COP28, governments are gearing up for marathon negotiations on whether they should, for the first time, agree to end the global use of coal, oil, and gas, which emit CO2, the main source of greenhouse gas emissions.
