Burkina Faso / Towards Food Self-Sufficiency: President Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s initiative for a prosperous and secure Nation

In the relentless fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso, President Ibrahim Traoré spares no effort to ensure the security of the people. However, he doesn’t stop there. The president recognizes that food security is just as crucial as national security. It is in this context that the presidential initiative “The Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive” is launched, with the ultimate goal of achieving food-self-sufficiency.

The government of Captain Ibrahim Traoré aims to ensure that the country is self-sufficient in terms of food. Faced with the challenge of water scarcity, concrete measures have been taken.

Strategic sites have been identified, and high-capacity drilling is underway in Mokin and Nariou, in the Central West region.

These drills will ensure water supply to the affected areas, supporting producers during the crucial period of the dry season.

Innovation is at the heart of this initiative. To optimize agricultural yields on limited land, the cutting-edge technique of soilless cultivation is currently being experimented with in Salbisgo, a locality in the rural commune of Ramongo.

This initiative has led to the construction of two greenhouses, each covering an area of 250 square meters.

Soilless cultivation offers an efficient way to intensify agricultural production while reducing land pressure, an increasingly worrisome issue.

By investing in these innovative technologies, President Ibrahim Traoré and his government demonstrate a strong commitment to modernizing agriculture and strengthening food security.

Soilless cultivation, in particular, provides significant benefits, allowing more efficient use of resources while minimizing environmental impact.

This presidential initiative is not limited to agriculture. It also encompasses the fisheries sector, recognizing the importance of aquatic resources in nutrition.

Measures are being taken to develop fishing and ensure a consistent supply of seafood, thereby contributing to the diversification of food sources.

By combining technological innovation with strong political commitment, President Ibrahim Traoré is paving the way for a future where Burkina Faso can not only ensure the security of its citizens against external threats but also guarantee food-self-sufficiency for all.
