Burkina Faso: The government announces the suspension “until further notice” of documentary checks.

The Burkinabe government announced in a circular dated Monday, November 28, 2022 through the Ministry of Security, the suspension of documentary controls throughout the territory …”until further notice” according to the note. With the exception of security control operations and those carried out at authorized border posts, all documentary checks on the whole country are suspended.

In the same vein, the Ministry calls for security control operations to be carried out with respect for human rights and the dignity of individuals.

According to the ministry in charge of security, road control operations must be part of a dynamic of prevention, and fight against crime in general and terrorism in particular.

These operations essentially concern the control of the identity of the driver and passengers of the vehicle, preceding a thorough search of the vehicle and the luggage of the other occupants.

In addition to these searches, there are also pat-downs of the driver and other occupants of the vehicle.

On the government’s note, Colonel Boukaré Zoungrana, Minister of Security, pays particular attention to its strict compliance.

But in such a fragile security situation, some indiscretions disapprove of the suspension of documentary checks in favor of maintaining it.

Because they say, “inappropriate, in such a security atmosphere, to suspend “until further notice” a measure that could prove useful for the security of the country”.

According to these actors of public opinion, it is therefore urgent to restore this measure as soon as possible in order to block any “breach”.

Consequently, it is made known to all that documentary checks can only be carried out on instructions from the Minister of Security.

But from these same indiscretions, voices are raised rather in favor of the restoration and systematic strengthening of this security measure.
