Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim’s men neutralise several terrorists, capture others and destroy bases

Over the past weekend, the security forces of Burkina Faso, aided by air support, conducted successful anti-terrorism operations across multiple regions of the country, achieving substantial outcomes. Preliminary reports from security sources indicate the elimination of several terrorists and the capture of others during these strategic interventions.

On Sunday, May 5, 2024, vigilant personnel at the Soudougui military detachment in Koulpélogo, Central-East, detected terrorist presence in a nearby grove close to their camp. Confirmation by aerial reconnaissance revealed a significant enemy base.

Following an initial airstrike, ground forces engaged the terrorists, successfully neutralizing fleeing individuals and seizing valuable equipment.

Simultaneously, the 5th and 9th Rapid Intervention Battalions (BIR) executed a decisive assault on a terrorist stronghold in the Mansila area of Yagha, located in the Sahel region.

This operation resulted in the elimination of several criminal elements and the acquisition of critical assets.

Further operations were carried out on May 4, 2024, involving joint efforts between the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP).

Aerial support was instrumental in aiding VDP forces under attack by terrorists in Datou, Central-East.

Pursuit of the criminals, who attempted to escape into the Nouaho forest with stolen livestock, led to the destruction of their base.

In another significant event on the same day, a terrorist column was intercepted in the Wabsouya area of Central-North as they headed towards Ouintokuilga for a clandestine meeting.

An airstrike effectively disrupted their gathering, resulting in the dispersal of guards and the neutralization of key terrorist leaders.

These coordinated operations signify a substantial advancement in ongoing fight against terrorism in Burkina Faso. The relentless efforts to secure the national territory underscore the commitment to maintaining stability and safeguarding the country’s citizens.
