Africa: The African Union Commission and TikTok join forces to strengthen digital security

The rapid rise of technology in Africa has ushered in new opportunities while also presenting significant cybersecurity challenges, particularly for the younger generation. Acknowledging this reality, the African Union Commission and TikTok have joined hands this week in an innovative partnership aimed at bolstering online safety.

The Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate (WGYD) of the African Union Commission, in collaboration with TikTok stakeholders, has inked a strategic pact to launch the “SaferTogether” campaign.

This initiative seeks to raise awareness among youth, educators, and parents regarding the intricacies of digital security.

The campaign will feature the dissemination of educational videos on online safety across the TikTok platform, complemented by practical insights from seasoned content creators.

Furthermore, TikTok and the African Union Commission will equip educators and mentors with digital security tools to enable them to address these critical issues effectively.

This endeavour aligns with the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa and its “1 Million Next Level” initiative, which aim to facilitate equitable access to digital platforms and promote their secure usage.

This partnership holds the promise of arming young Africans with the essential skills and knowledge to navigate the ever-evolving digital landscape safely.

Through collaborative efforts, the African Union Commission and TikTok are fostering a safer and more inclusive online community for African youth, charting a path towards a bright digital future.
