Africa: Strengthening cooperation in the security and economic fields between Mali and Morocco.

The 9th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) ended in Morocco on November 24. The three-day program was divided into several debates on the core values of the alliance of civilizations, on the identity of Africa, the new social contract, mediation in cultural and religious conflicts, education for global citizenship, migration, etc. On the sidelines of this meeting, the Foreign Ministers of Mali and Morocco exchanged views on bilateral relations between their two countries.

Gratitude and recognition from Mali for the “constant and pragmatic position” of HM King Mohammed VI and Morocco regarding the transition in this West African country. This is the essence of the message of the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop who spoke on the sidelines of the 9th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, on November 23 in Fez historic city in northwestern Morocco.

On January 20, 2022, Morocco expressed its solidarity with the Malian people, targeted by a series of sanctions from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), including an economic embargo and an asset freeze at the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO). A solidarity that is illustrated in several areas, especially on the economic level. Morocco represents about 60% of the banking sector in Mali and occupies 50% of the telecommunications market. Both countries want to diversify the fields.

On the continent, free movement between countries remains a real obstacle to the dynamics of business that is woven on both sides of borders. Aware of this fact, the Kingdom of Morocco wants to make its border with Mali a fluidized transit point. A free movement of people that Morocco, according to Minister Abdoulaye Diop, accelerates by working to reduce all the harassment still existing.
