Africa: 15th OIC conference opens this Saturday in Banjul

The 15th Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) kicks off this Saturday, may 4th, for two days, under the theme «Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development». The objective of this meeting, which will be held in Banjul, Gambia is to discuss session documents and present the report at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers held two games before.

During the preparatory meeting, Dr. Abdullah Al Tayer, Advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for International Multilateral Affairs, delivered a speech on behalf of his country as President of the Islamic Summit Conference at its fourteenth session.

He reviewed the efforts, initiatives, and achievements in economic and scientific activities, as well as the numerous conferences in various sectors organized by the Kingdom during its presidency of the previous session, expressing support for the efforts of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

On his part, Mr. Lang Yabou, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Gambia, welcomed the delegates of the Member States on behalf of his country, which hosts the fifteenth session of the Islamic Summit Conference, confirming that his country is making every effort to ensure the success of the session.

Mr. Yousef AlDobeay, Deputy Secretary-General of the OIC for Political Affairs, noted that this summit, held at a critical time, has witnessed developments of great importance for various issues on the OIC’s agenda, foremost among them being the Palestinian issue, the central issue of the organization.

«In addition to the summit documents, the Summit will discuss peace, security, societies, and Muslim minorities in non-member states, as well as legal, humanitarian, social, cultural, economic, scientific, technological, media, administrative, and financial matters», he said.

It is worth noting that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is the second-largest organization after the United Nations with 57 member states scattered across 4 continents.

The Organization is the voice of the Muslim world, safeguarding and protecting its interests in promoting international peace and harmony among different peoples of the world.
