Togo: H.E. Faure Gnassingbé is accelerating the local processing of raw materials to strengthen the national economy

Under the impetus of President of the Council Faure Gnassingbé, Togo is pursuing an ambitious policy of local raw material transformation to create greater added value and sustainably boost the national economy. This strategic vision aims to reduce dependence on raw product exports while fostering industrialization, job creation, and the development of a more resilient economic fabric.

As part of this dynamic, the scrap metal sector has undergone major reforms. Following the ban on scrap exports in 2021, the Togolese government initiated a restructuring of the sector in consultation with various stakeholders.

The establishment of a monitoring committee and the requirement to obtain approvals demonstrate the determination of the government to ensure better organization and more efficient management of this strategic sector.

One of the flagship measures consists of reserving exports exclusively for ferrous and non‑ferrous metals that have undergone processing on national territory.

This direction encourages investment in local industrial units, strengthens production capacities, and contributes to the emergence of a genuine recycling industry in Togo.

Thanks to these reforms, the country aims to become a sub‑regional benchmark in the production of quality recycled metals.

This policy, championed by President of the Council Faure Gnassingbé, illustrates an ongoing commitment to the valorization of national resources and the building of a more competitive and wealth‑creating economy.
