Togo: Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé reappointed as Prime Minister

On Thursday, August 1, 2024,Faure Gnassingbé  the President of the Republic of Togo reappointed Madame Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé as Prime Minister, according to an official statement released at the end of the day.

 

This appointment aligns with the transitional provisions of Togo’s new constitution, which allows for a one-year transition period before the full implementation of the 5th Republic’s constitution.

 

First appointed in 2020, Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé has evidently met the expectations of the President, warranting her continuation in this key role.

 

From the onset, she has implemented numerous reforms aimed at stimulating Togo’s economy and enhancing the living conditions of its citizens.

 

Under her leadership, the government has launched various initiatives to attract foreign investments and promote support programs for small and medium-sized enterprises.

 

Significant efforts have also been made to formalize the informal economy, thereby providing greater security and social benefits to workers.

 

The sectors of education and health have received particular attention. Investments have been made to improve access to and the quality of education, including the construction of new schools and the training of teachers.

 

In the health sector, Ms. Tomegah-Dogbé faced the COVID-19 crisis, taking swift and effective measures to contain the virus’s spread, including vaccination campaigns, health restrictions, and economic support programs for the hardest-hit sectors.

 

The reappointment of Victoire Tomegah-Dogbé as Prime Minister reflects President Faure Gnassingbé’s renewed confidence in her ability to lead Togo towards a new horizon of development and prosperity, especially during this transitional period.
