The President of Togo, H.E. Faure Gnassingbé, has committed to addressing the challenges of financial inclusion through the establishment of various inclusive and sustainable mechanisms. The results achieved in recent years have garnered the admiration of partners, positioning Togo as a reference in this field.

This explains why Togo was chosen to host the sixth African Microfinance Week. Under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, Togo has made significant progress within the West African Economic and Monetary Union.

According to data published by the Togolese government in January 2023, in line with BCEAO statistics, the financial inclusion rate has risen from 72.2% in 2018 to 85.72% in 2021, making the country the best performer in the West African region.

These accomplishments reflect the strong commitment and efforts of President Faure Gnassingbé towards the inclusion of all Togolese citizens.

This aligns with the first axis of the government’s roadmap, specifically focused on financial inclusion.

Togo has also developed a national financial inclusion strategy in 2021, led by the Ministry of Financial Inclusion and the Informal Sector.

President Faure Gnassingbé’s ambition is to boost the microfinance sector by strengthening institutional capacities and facilitating access to resources for both beneficiaries and microfinance institutions.
