Togo/Diplomacy: President Faure GNASSINGBE met the heads of diplomacy of Burkina Faso and Mali

The Togolese Head of State, Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, met the foreign affairs ministers of Burkina Faso and Mali on Sunday 22 October. These were, respectively, H.E. Mrs Olivia Rouamba and H.E. Mr Abdoulaye Diop.

This was in the presence of their Togolese counterpart, H.E. Mr Robert Dussey. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the first edition of the Lomé Peace and Security Forum.

This is a two-day international event for exchanges on political transitions and democracy in Africa.

Participants from various UN member states, the African Union, ECOWAS, the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) and many other representatives from around the world shared their experiences of peace and security and put forward proposals for a bright future for Africa.

The meeting with the Togolese head of state  Faure GNASSINGBE was also an opportunity to discuss current affairs and issues of common interest to the three countries, Burkina Faso, Mali and Togo.

Togo, which borders Burkina Faso, has recently experienced terrorist attacks in the north, on the border with Faso.

Although the situation in Togo is less serious, people living in the area are still at risk, as are the defence and security forces, which have already lost some of their personnel.

It would be a good thing for the leaders of these countries to decide to join forces to put an end to this scourge, which displaces thousands of people.
