Togo: Authorities receive donation of medical and rolling equipment from South Korea

On Friday, October 13, 2023, in Lomé, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Togolese Abroad received a significant donation of medical and rolling equipment from the Republic of South Korea. This aid is intended to support Togo in its commitment to significantly enhance the availability of logistical resources to address healthcare emergencies in hospitals.

The donation comprises six (6) HYUNDAI ambulances and medical equipment, with a total value of 456,864,000 US Dollars, approximately 283,447,288 CFA Francs.

This contribution will bolster the capacities of the country’s hospitals in various healthcare services.

The ambulances will be distributed among Togo’s five economic regions, as well as the Greater Lomé Region, to enable healthcare facilities to more effectively handle medical emergencies.

Mr. Afo Salifou, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the government, noted that this donation from the Republic of South Korea is not the first and certainly will not be the last.

«Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries on July 26, 1963, we have received its support in various fields such as agriculture, education, health, and training. We have also strengthened our political, economic, and cultural exchanges in a spirit of mutual respect and win-win cooperation. We sincerely express our gratitude and admiration to the donors for their consistent acts of solidarity and friendship», he shared.

The official equipment handover ceremony took place in the presence of the Republic of South Korea’s Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Lim Jung-Taek, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Togolese Abroad, Mr. Afo Salifou, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Kokou Wotobé, and other dignitaries.

Mr. Salifou also emphasized that this donation aligns with Togo’s Togo 2025 roadmap, specifically within the framework of the first pillar, which aims to strengthen social inclusion and harmony and ensure peace through the establishment of universal health coverage and the development of an emergency healthcare response plan.
