The Daily Show with Trevor Noah surprises with Emmy Win in Competitive Late-Night Category

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah pulled off a somewhat unexpected win in the primary late-night Emmy category. The victory became a bit more attainable after Last Week Tonight with John Oliver was moved out of the Outstanding Talk Series category (ultimately winning Scripted Variety Series).

Noah, who departed The Daily Show over a year ago, graciously accepted the award, expressing gratitude to his former team and acknowledging Jon Stewart, also nominated for The Problem with Jon Stewart, for bringing him to The Daily Show.

He specifically thanked showrunner Jen Flanz, stating, «This woman rode with me through the trenches».

In a humorous note, Noah jokingly remarked, «I told you we’d beat John Oliver if he wasn’t in our category. We did it, we got rid of John Oliver».

He went on to express appreciation for the dedicated individuals who supported him, including the «crazy Africans» who joined him in the United States, his writing team, and Jon Stewart, the “crazy genius” behind the whole venture.

Noah concluded his acceptance by reflecting on the long, wild, and wonderful journey, thanking everyone who provided opportunities and Jon Stewart for inviting him to join the extraordinary adventure.
