Niger/Russia: Regular talks and exchanges: the basis of the cooperation between Niamey and Moscow

The Republic of Niger and the Russian Federation have enjoyed excellent relations of friendship and cooperation for several months now.

These relations are based on trust, sincerity, mutual respect and the search for concerted solutions to regional and international challenges, and are characterised by regular consultations between players from the two partner countries.

This is a way of regularly discussing subjects of common interest and working together to meet the challenges linked to their cooperation.

It was in this context that a Russian delegation was once again welcomed to Niamey last weekend.

The Russian delegation, led by Colonel General Evkourov Lunus-Bek, Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation, held talks with the President of the Transition, Brigadier General Abdourahamane TIANI.

The aim of this umpteenth meeting was to discuss bilateral cooperation, focusing in particular on strategic areas such as security, defence and economic development.

On the agenda of their discussions were mechanisms for strengthening and deepening cooperation between the two nations, to better meet their mutual commitment.

The two parties also expressed their desire to lay the foundations for stronger and more dynamic cooperation in their common interests.

The Russian military authority reiterated his country’s commitment to support Niger in its legitimate aspirations and to work together to achieve its objectives.

The President of Niger’s transitional government, for his part, called for greater mobilisation of Russian economic players to invest in Niger and contribute to the development of its immense potential, with a view to sustainable development and shared prosperity.
