Niger: Moscow-Niamey cooperation takes shape with the arrival of Russian instructors and the delivery of military equipment

Following the rift with France, military cooperation between Niger and Russia is taking shape. Military equipment and Russian instructors arrived in Niamey on April 10, confirming the emerging military cooperation between Niger and the Russian Federation.

The receipt of this equipment and the presence of Russian instructors come just days after phone exchanges between General Abdourahamane Tiani and his counterpart Vladimir Putin on strengthening their security cooperation.

The received equipment is an anti-aircraft defense system capable of controlling Niger’s entire airspace.

This initial batch of equipment marks the beginning of a strategy of security and military cooperation between the two countries.

The receipt of the equipment signals a new phase in the fight against terrorism.

With the presence of Russian military instructors, Nigerien soldiers will receive training for the efficient use of the device.

The strengthening of cooperation between Niamey and Moscow, desired by both presidents, is further materializing.

Vladimir Putin’s country is developing similar cooperation with Mali and Burkina Faso.

These three countries have come together within the Alliance of Sahel States to create a joint force to carry out a coordinated fight against terrorist groups and work towards the development of the Sahel region.
