Niger/Attempted coup d’état: General Omar Tchiani. The new strongman of the country?

Attempted coup d’etat in Niger this Wednesday,July 26. According to a regional military source, the President of Niger is currently being held by mutineers, whose exact numbers are unknown at the moment. Another source close to the presidency asserts that Mohamed Bazoum is safe and currently negotiating with the involved military personnel.

Some sources describe this as a “fit of anger,” while others do not hesitate to mention an “attempted coup d’état” targeting Mohamed Bazoum, as the surroundings of the Nigerien presidency were blocked by elements of the presidential guard on the early morning of this Wednesday.

This fit of anger or attempted coup d’etat in Niger d’état is allegedly led by General Omar Tchiani of the presidential guard and could potentially make him the new strongman of Niger if this bold move is confirmed.
