DRC: President Félix Tshisekedi sets about boosting Congolese agriculture, a sector with great economic potential

In the framework of the DRC-Nigeria Business Council project, President Felix Tshisekedi engaged in a significant meeting with former Nigerian Head of State, Olusegun Obasanjo, and prominent businessman Aliko Dangote, a major contributor to the project.

The initiative, geared towards fostering economic integration between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Nigeria, has drawn attention to potential investments in key sectors.

Aliko Dangote, a notable figure in business, particularly in the mining and agricultural sectors, shared insights with President Tshisekedi during this crucial meeting.

The DRC-Nigeria Business Council project signifies a strategic effort by the Congolese president to forge closer ties and enhance economic collaboration between the two nations.

President Tshisekedi’s commitment to bridging Congolese and Nigerian entrepreneurs since 2022 underscores a broader vision for economic growth and cooperation.

The agricultural sector in the DRC, contributing significantly to the GDP and employment, stands as a pivotal area for potential development.

The collaboration with Aliko Dangote, known for his expertise in agriculture, positions the DRC on the brink of becoming a prominent player in agri-food, agribusiness, and agricultural transformation, with aspirations to be a major global exporter of agricultural products.

As the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) notes, the DRC, given its vast potential, could play a significant role in global food security, potentially feeding up to 2 billion people worldwide.

The recent meeting between President Tshisekedi, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Aliko Dangote in part of the DRC-Nigeria Business Council project  marks a noteworthy milestone in the journey towards enhancing economic collaboration and unlocking the agricultural potential of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
