Deadly fire in Guinea: Burkina Faso sympathises with the suffering of the Guinean people

Following the deadly explosion at an oil depot in Kaloum, Guinea Conakry, on the night of December 17 to 18, 2023, which resulted in 14 deaths and nearly 200 injuries according to the provisional report, the Burkinabè government expressed its compassion and solidarity with the people of Guinea on Tuesday, December 19.

In a statement released by the Minister of State and government spokesperson, Rimtalba Jean-Emmanuel Ouédraogo, the government, on behalf of the entire Burkinabè people, quickly sent words of comfort, solidarity to the authorities of Guinea Conakry, and compassion to the families and loved ones of the victims.

According to the Minister of State, «The Government of Burkina Faso shares the concern of the Guinean authorities following the fire at the main hydrocarbon depot of the Guinean Oil Company in Kaloum». He wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

As a reminder, following the deadly fire triggered on Sunday night after an explosion at a hydrocarbon depot in Kaloum, a neighborhood in the heart of Conakry, the Guinean government had decided to close schools and gas stations in the city on Monday.

Additionally, free care is provided for 190 injured individuals, of whom 113 have returned to their families, according to a statement from the Guinean government.
