Crisis at Olympique Lyonnais: The search for a new coach begins

Olympique Lyonnais is in search of a new coach to steer the team in the midst of a crisis. Following the dismissal of Italian coach Fabio Grosso just two months after his arrival, the French club’s management immediately embarked on the quest for a new leader capable of rebuilding the team.

The 46-year-old Italian coach, Fabio Grosso, who won the 2006 World Cup with the Italian national team and formerly played as a defender for OL from 2007 to 2009, was terminated barely two months after being appointed as the coach.

Despite initially being contracted until June 30, 2024, his lack of success in managing the team hastened his departure.

Indeed, the Italian coach only managed to secure one victory in his eight matches in charge, which occurred on November 12 against Rennes (0-1).

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Olympique Lyonnais has entered into talks with Bruno Genesio to take on the coaching role.

At 57 years old, Genesio has previous experience with the team, having managed it from 2015 to 2019.

Currently occupying the last position in Ligue 1 with only seven points after 12 matches, Genesio’s arrival could signify a fresh start for the struggling team, which is five points behind the direct safety position.
