Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with ICRC delegation to Strengthen Humanitarian Collaboration

On the evening of December 5, 2023, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabè Abroad, Olivia Rouamba, held a meeting with the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation, Laurent Saugy, who was concluding his mission in Burkina Faso, accompanied by his deputy, Yves Arnoldy.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss mutual interests between Burkina Faso and the ICRC.

At the conclusion of his mission, Laurent Saugy expressed gratitude to the authorities and people of Burkina Faso for their hospitality during his stay.

He wished that his successor would receive the same support to successfully carry out the ICRC’s mission.

Laurent Saugy, recently recognized by Burkinabe authorities, commended the remarkable work of the ICRC under his mandate in areas such as humanitarian aid, community health, livestock, water, and food security.

The new head of delegation, Yves Arnoldy, conveyed his delight at working alongside the people of Burkina Faso and expressed his commitment to building upon the positive work already carried out by the ICRC in the country.

 He emphasized his readiness to support those in need and assured that he would closely listen to transitional authorities to identify needs effectively.

In her speech, H.E Olivia Rouamba expressed gratitude to the ICRC for its multifaceted support in crucial sectors such as health, livestock, water access, and humanitarian aid.

This support aligns with the priorities of the transitional government.

The arrival of the new head of delegation reaffirms the ICRC’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to Burkina Faso.

The Minister reassured the new ICRC head of delegation of the authorities’ readiness to support him, ensuring the success of his mandate in the land of the upright men.
