Burkina-Faso: The government announces the creation of a national fund to support socio-economic initiatives

Meeting in the Council of Ministers on Wednesday 18 October, the government adopted a draft decree on the creation of a national financing fund called the «Faso kuna-Wili» Fund (FKW).

The «Faso kuna-Wili» Fund (FKW) is an initiative which, according to the government, will encourage the creation and consolidation of jobs for young people and women, by «supporting their socio-economic initiatives».

The fund will support «small and medium-sized enterprises/small and medium-sized industries (SMEs/SMIs), groups, associations, cooperative societies and players in the informal economy in order to promote their contribution to the economic emergence of Burkina Faso», explained the Minister for the Economy, Finance and Forward Planning, Aboubacar Nacanabo.

It should be noted that the current security crisis in Burkina Faso has had a major impact on the employment sector.

And as well as the fight to reclaim the entire territory of Burkina Faso, economic growth is at the heart of the MPSR’s priorities.

As a result, constant efforts are being made to support income-generating activities and people’s businesses.

On August 12th, on the occasion of International Youth Day, the Head of State announced that the government was working to put in place all the conditions needed to encourage the creation of businesses for young people.

In December 2022, the government announced its intention to create at least 600,000 decent jobs for young people and women.
