Burkina-Faso: The General Directorate of Taxes launches the month of fiscal exemplarity

The Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) proceeded this Wednesday, January 11, 2023, to the launch of the month of fiscal exemplarity. The operation aims to collect taxes on the residence card, the tax on motor vehicles and the tax on land.

The month of fiscal exemplarity will consist for each public official “starting with the top of the State” despite their civic duty by voluntarily consenting to the tax for the constitution of public resources, said the Director General of Taxes, Daouda Kirakoya.

“And on this, I can assure you that the Presidency of Faso for the first time in the history of Burkina Faso will receive a team of tax control but that the entire government starting with his excellence, the President of Faso has fulfilled its duty to pay personal taxes, “said Daouda Kirakoya.

The Director General of Taxes continued by stating that the initiative will consist of each public official to be updated by submitting to the formalities of declaration, taxation and payment of its own personal taxes. “The most known are the residence tax, the tax on motor vehicles, the property tax,” he said.

The head of the institution in charge of collecting taxes has also instructed his staff to ensure the continuity of the operation by a proximity support of citizens and the establishment of devices to facilitate the procedures. In terms of facilitation, the payment of these taxes will be in cash or by mobile payment, he stressed.

The month of fiscal exemplarity knows another reform this year: it is the imposition of the tax on motor vehicles with two wheels and three including motorcycles and tricycles newly purchased. Thus, the users of these machines will simply have to collect the amount of taxes they owe to the State during registration.

Alcoholic and energy drinks are also affected. With regard to this tax, for example, the tax on beer with an alcohol content of less than 8° is 30%, beer with an alcohol content of more than 8° is 40% and wine is 70%.
