Burkina Faso: Burkinabè Foreign Minister Meets Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs

During the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development held in New York, Burkinabè Foreign Minister, H.E. Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA, had a fruitful meeting with Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Ms. Joyce MSUYA. The objective of this meeting was to discuss the ongoing support of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in managing the humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso.

In her speech, H.E. Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA first expressed her gratitude to the Deputy Secretary-General for the invaluable support Burkina Faso has received from OCHA in managing the humanitarian crisis.

She also emphasized the importance of continuing to benefit from this assistance and requested OCHA to advocate on behalf of Burkina Faso with other partner countries.

H.E. Mrs. ROUAMBA also discussed the specific needs of Burkina Faso in implementing the National Strategy for the Recovery of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Host Communities (IDP-HC 2033-2027).

This strategy aims to promote peace, social cohesion, and improve the living conditions of the populations affected by the crisis.

In response to the concerns raised by H.E. Mrs. ROUAMBA, Ms. MSUYA reassured the Burkinabè Foreign Minister that OCHA will not abandon Burkina Faso.

On the contrary, she affirmed that the country is considered a top priority by the organization, particularly during this period marked by the rainy season.

Ms. MSUYA commended the resilience of the Burkinabè people in the face of the humanitarian crisis and expressed her satisfaction in seeing that Burkina Faso remains steadfast despite the challenges it is facing.

She pledged to mobilize additional resources for Burkina Faso and announced her intention to visit the country soon to assess the security and humanitarian situation on the ground.

The meeting between Burkinabè Foreign Minister, H.E. Mrs. Olivia ROUAMBA, and Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Ms. Joyce MSUYA, has strengthened the ties between Burkina Faso and OCHA in the fight against the humanitarian crisis.

The promise of continued support from OCHA and the commitment to mobilize more resources for Burkina Faso are encouraging signs for the country, which is striving to regain peace, social cohesion, and improve the living conditions of its populations affected by the crisis.
