Burkina Faso: Major health reforms, greater accessibility and affordable prices for all

President Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s vision is deeply rooted in ensuring every single person in Burkina Faso has equitable access to top-tier healthcare services. To actualize this vision, his government is steadfastly committed to fortifying medical infrastructure nationwide, enhancing the training and recruitment of healthcare professionals, and enacting policies to bridge disparities in healthcare access.

In a decisive move towards this end, the administration has abolished the onerous lifelong deposit of 500,000 F CFA for hemodialysis, effective by the close of April.

Furthermore, under the auspices of President Traoré’s directive, the Council of Ministers has resolved to significantly slash fees for CT scans and MRIs.

Presently, the average cost for a CT scan in public hospitals stands at 50,000 F CFA.

However, come late April, this fee will undergo a drastic reduction, plummeting to a mere 25,000 F CFA, regardless of location or technique.

Similarly, for MRI examinations, the prevailing average fee of 100,000 F CFA in public hospitals will witness a substantial drop to 40,000 F CFA, constituting a remarkable 60% decrease.

President Traoré’s unwavering focus on population health not only underscores his commitment to fostering socio-economic development in Burkina Faso but also reflects his dedication to nurturing a fairer and more prosperous Burkinabe society.

Through such initiatives, he endeavours to ensure that every individual receives adequate protection for their health and well-being, thus fostering a brighter future for the nation as a whole.
