Burkina Faso Government’s efforts in developing the mining sector under President Ibrahim Traoré’s leadership

The transitional government of Burkina Faso, under the leadership of President Ibrahim Traoré, is making every effort to develop the mining sector, which is a crucial engine for the country’s economic growth. Several initiatives have been implemented to support the sector.

Since the beginning of his governance, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has committed to and taken action to boost the mining sector in Burkina Faso.

This includes reclaiming certain mining sites to entrust them to trusted entities and establishing an appropriate legal framework, marking a phase of development for the mining sector.

This process has involved organization, restructuring, and the creation of local mineral processing plants.

For example, the construction of the first gold refinery and a plant for processing mining residues are underway.

Today, President Ibrahim Traoré’s government aims to revolutionize the artisanal mining sector in Burkina Faso.

Already, on Monday, March 18, the government inaugurated the Mutualized Ore Processing Center for gold ore in Meguet, a locality located in the Ganzourgou province, in the Central Plateau region of Burkina Faso.

According to the government, the establishment of this pilot center meets the need to formalize and organize artisanal mining to improve its informal and precarious nature.

It also aims to provide artisanal miners with a secure and equipped environment for effective and efficient processing of gold ore while preserving the local ecosystem.

According to the Minister of Mines, the Meguet Mutualized Ore Processing Center is the first of around ten centers that the government plans to inaugurate in 2024.

Nearly 2,000 artisanal miners in Meguet benefit from this pilot project, which is an initiative of the Burkina Faso government and its partners.
