Burkina Faso: Enhancement of the diplomatic relations with Russia
The enhancement of the diplomatic relations with Russia is at the heart of the foreign policy of the Burkinabe transitional government.
In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, H.E. Mrs. Olivia Rouamba received earlier this week, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation, Alexey Saltykov, in an audience.
At the end of the meeting, the Russian diplomat Alexey Saltykov suggested that his visit “is part of the logic of strengthening cooperation between the two states.”
Therefore, he expressed his wish that cooperation between Russia and Burkina should be further strengthened, taking into account various areas including security, agriculture, culture, trade, scientific research, and vocational training, with an increase in the quota of scholarships. This would allow a large number of young Burkinabes to pursue their studies in Russian universities.
For her part, Ms. Olivia Rouamba, the head of Burkinabe diplomacy, expressed her gratitude for the progress of cooperation and conveyed Burkina Faso’s appreciation for Moscow’s evident support. « We appreciate the presence of the Russian Federation by our side as a reliable partner», she said.
The two diplomats also discussed current international issues, including candidacies in UN bodies.
The two parties agreed to support each other in order to access certain positions within these organizations.
