Burkina Faso/Counter-terrorism: President TRAORE looks back and looks ahead

In a recent address to the nation via the  national radio station,  the President of Burkina Faso  Captain Ibrahim Traoré praised the significant achievements of the Burkinabe military in reclaiming control over much of the country. After two years of intense fighting, state authorities now maintain control over 70% of the national territory.

This progress has enabled the return of displaced citizens to their homes, the reopening of administrative services, and the resumption of educational activities, highlighting the military’s growing strength.

However, concerns remain over the 30% of the territory still under the control of hostile forces. When questioned about this by a listener, President Traoré assured the nation of the government’s commitment to regaining full territorial control.

He emphasized that 2025 would be pivotal in the ongoing efforts, with plans to intensify operations and reclaim the remaining regions.

The president made it clear that the fight against the country’s adversaries would continue relentlessly, stating that these enemies would not be defeated until they surrender.

He also vowed to hold accountable those responsible for looting the nation’s resources.

To meet these objectives, Traoré pledged to continue strengthening the military through increased recruitment and better equipment, aiming for true independence and sovereignty for Burkina Faso.

While this strategy offers hope for a complete restoration of peace and security, challenges remain.

The ongoing conflict poses risks of further displacement, and sustained military investment could strain national resources.

Nonetheless, the promise of a more secure and sovereign Burkina Faso underpins the government’s long-term vision.
