The security situation has been marked by terrorist attacks since 2015 in several regions of Burkina Faso. These attacks have caused many victims and thousands of internally displaced people, while more than 40% of the territory is outside the control of the state, according to official figures.

Also, President Traoré decided to give up his salary as Head of State and keep his salary as captain of the Burkinabe army, in order to “show this spirit of sacrifice that must inhabit each Burkinabe in the current situation of our country,” according to government spokesman Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, who was speaking at the end of the last council of ministers.

The government spokesman also explained that in the same dynamic, the ministers decided to devote 50% of their salaries in November to the National Solidarity Fund for the benefit of people in difficulty, including internally displaced people.
