Burkina Faso: 3rd edition of SICOT 2024: Conclusion on a note of satisfaction

The curtains fell on the 3rd edition of SICOT on Saturday, January 27, 2024, marking the conclusion of various activities aimed at transforming the cotton-textile industry. Koudougou, often referred to as the “City of the Red Rider,” Hosted this event

SICOT serves as an international platform for professionals across the entire cotton value chain to engage in discussions and contemplate the future of the cotton-textile sector.

This event brings together industry experts to address development issues and seek concrete solutions to the significant concerns of stakeholders.

With its third edition, SICOT has become a pivotal event for cotton-textile industry players, gathering experiences and gradually becoming an essential rendezvous for professionals in the field.

According to Serge Poda, the Minister in charge of industrial development, trade, handicrafts, and Small and Medium Enterprises, the overall assessment is positive.

«What we can highlight is that fruitful exchanges took place, and strong recommendations were formulated. These recommendations aim to elevate African cotton into a flagship product by exploring all derivatives and transforming it into finished products. This approach would enable African countries to derive maximum income and added value from this product», expressed Minister Poda.

This edition attracted participation from more than 39 countries, indicating the growing enthusiasm surrounding SICOT.

The Republic of Togo, honored as the guest of honor, expressed delight in its first participation, leaving revitalized and committed to on-site transformation of cotton production.

«We have learned a lot. As cotton producers in our respective countries, we are firmly committed to transforming what we produce on-site, thereby adding value to the cotton produced in Togo and across Africa. This is a resolution with which we return to our country», testified Afawoubo Afi Akouyovi, Director-General of Industry and head of the Togolese delegation.

To conclude this 3rd edition, a gala evening captivated participants. During this event, various partners were highlighted, and a fashion show featuring cotton-made outfits took center stage. Thus, the 3rd edition of SICOT concluded on a festive note.
