Algeria: In the fight against crime and terrorism, the People’s National Army is conducting large-scale operations on the borders
In the ongoing battle against terrorism and organized crime, the People’s National Army (ANP) in Algeria has conducted extensive border operations. Between November 15 and 21, 2023, various units and detachments of the ANP demonstrated a high level of professionalism, vigilance, and continuous readiness, yielding significant results, as stated in a press release issued by Algerian authorities on November 22.
In this anti-terrorist operation, «ANP detachments apprehended eight supporters of terrorist groups in operations across the country. Additionally, two homemade bombs were discovered and neutralized during a sweep operation in Blida».
As part of the broader effort against organized crime and the fight against drug trafficking, combined the National Army detachments, collaborating with various security services, intercepted 50 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to smuggle 3 quintals and 81 kilograms of kif from the Moroccan borders. Furthermore, they seized 4.376 kilograms of cocaine and 240,245 psychotropic tablets.
In Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Guezzam, In Salah, and Djanet, ANP detachments arrested 158 individuals, impounded 38 vehicles, and confiscated various items, including generators, pick hammers, metal detectors, mixed stones, raw gold, explosives, detonation tools, and equipment used in illegal gold panning operations.
Separate operations across the country resulted in the interception of 15 individuals, the seizure of 6 hunting rifles, 29,634 liters of fuel, 31 tonnes of foodstuffs intended for smuggling, 16 quintals of tobacco, and 21,389 units of various drinks.
The Malian, Burkinabe, and Nigerien armies’ determination to eliminate terrorism from their territories has pushed terrorists further north.
With Kidal now recaptured by the Malian army, there is a heightened risk that these terrorists may seek refuge in neighbouring countries. Algeria has proactively anticipated events, taking appropriate measures to avoid any unforeseen challenges.
