Burkina Faso: UN reassures Burkinabe authorities of its commitment.

The United Nations has dispatched a high-level mission to Ouagadougou with a “strong delegation” to “reassure the Burkinabe authorities of (its) commitment to stand by Burkina Faso,” according to the Burkinabe Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is a strong delegation led by Mrs. Giovanie BIHA, Acting Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS) who came to reassure the Burkinabe authorities of the commitment of the United Nations to remain at the side of Burkina Faso to accompany it in this difficult period and this, despite the circumstances that led to the expulsion of the former coordinator, Mrs. Barbara MANZI.

Firmly rejecting the actions undertaken by the former coordinator MANZI, the Burkinabe side, composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Her Excellency Olivia ROUAMBA, the Minister of State in charge of Defense and Veterans, the Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Security, and the Minister Delegate in charge of Security, took the opportunity to take stock of the security and humanitarian situation prevailing in Burkina Faso.

At the end of the discussions, both parties expressed their satisfaction. They left on a note of hope that collaboration between Burkina Faso and the United Nations System would be strengthened.
